The Cost of Phragmites
Phragmites is consuming water that could be reaching the Great Salt Lake — and Utah land managers estimate controlling it around the lake could save roughly 82,000 acre-feet of water each year.
That makes Phragmites one of the more tangible opportunities in the effort to help the lake. Utah has already shown that large-scale removal can work, but current plans could take a decade to bring it under control.
We believe that is too long.
The more people who understand the issue and speak up about it, the harder it becomes for this opportunity to be overlooked. Focused action can make a measurable difference.
